If you knew you'd live to 100, how would you change your life today?

Sandwich Parents – Caught in the Middle

A new generation of people has emerged that is vital to the way families function and thrive. They aren’t Generation X, Y, Z, or Millennials. This is the Sandwich Generation. It is the moms and dads sandwiched between raising their own children and taking care of their parents at the same time. With extended life spans becoming the norm, and many elderly people not being adequately prepared for their extended lives, the burden of taking care of both older and younger generations is left to the person that is caught in the middle – the sandwich parents.

Blindsided

It is estimated that between now and the year 2050, the number of 100-year-old people will grow by 800%. That is a lot of elderly people! Someone has to take care of them as our treasured elders are being blindsided by their extended life and deteriorating into old age. The Sandwich Generation has been called to the task.

On the other side of the responsibility coin are the Sandwich Generation’s children. Fifty percent of the children born after 2000 are predicted to live 100 years while the other 50% are predicted to live shorter lives than their parents. Which side of this 50/50 split that your children end up on? The quality of life that they live will be determined in large part by the health values that they are raised with.

So, who is going to take care of Sandwich Mom and Dad as they care for multiple generations? We all know the answer: They must take care of themselves. Knowing that they are vital to the raising of their children and caretaking of their aging parents, Sandwich Moms and Dads need to make sure that they are well inside and out.

Here are some vital Sandwich Tips that will help:
  • Develop a long-term vision for your life.
  • Make daily self-care choices that support your long-term vision. They will be good for you in the short-term as well.
  • Choose organic, pesticide free, hormone free foods.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Make time for yourself.
  • Find a good balance. Set boundaries.
  • Keep your brain, spine, and nervous system healthy.
  • Build a health team, not just a sickness team.

Embracing your longevity potential is vital for your own, personal well-being. You are getting the advanced notice that your parents and grandparents never received that you will probably live longer than you ever thought.

Healthy lifestyle choices such as a positive attitude, healthy eating, and regular exercise must become a top priority. Another top priority should be chiropractic check-ups to keep the effects of subluxations and other neurological imbalances from harming your digestion, sleep, hormone balance, energy, and every other function of your body. They will also help to keep your posture straight and strong.
